The Mazda MX-30 is the automaker’s first fully electric vehicle. Mazda bases it on the same platform as the Mazda CX-30 and the Mazda3, and for this reason, it can offer no more than an estimated 100 miles of range. Mazda can only fit a maximum 35.3-kilowatt-hour battery pack into the existing gas-engine vehicle platform, which results in the low range estimate that is uncompetitive in the segment. MX-30 EV sales are limited to California, but the sticker price is appealing. An MX-30 plug-in hybrid is planned for the 2023 model year and will be available in all Mazda dealerships across the country.
