Honda was the first to sell a hybrid car in the U.S. The 2000 Honda Insight was a teardrop-shaped two-seater rated to get 61 mpg on the highway. A decade later, a more practical second-generation Insight hatchback offered five-passenger seating and more cargo space. Finally, the third-generation Insight sedan arrived for 2019, a restyled hybrid version of the popular Honda Civic. Now, Honda retires the Insight name after 2022 in advance of the new Civic Hybrid’s arrival. The Insight always offered spectacular fuel economy. But more importantly, this model helped lay the groundwork for an electrified future.
