All-electric cars might not be as plentiful as their crossover/SUV cousins, but there are still a fair number of intriguing, fossil-fuel-free options to explore for anyone who'd rather have a traditional passenger car over an electric SUV or pickup truck.

Admittedly, many electric vehicles tend to skew toward the luxury side of the price spectrum. But there are still plenty of affordable models on sale for buyers looking to lead a battery-powered lifestyle. And some of these EVs may also qualify for federal or state government tax or purchase incentives.

Alphabetically, here’s every new electric car available for the 2022 model year.
Audi

Audi e-tron GT

The 2022 Audi e-tron GT offers two distinct levels of performance wrapped in a gorgeous four-door sedan design. The base $103,895 e-tron GT features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup good for up to 522 horsepower. The $143,845 RS e-tron GT trim ups the ante to 637 horsepower. Both e-tron GTs use a 93-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack. The maximum driving ranges are an EPA-estimated 238 miles for the e-tron GT and 232 for the RS e-tron GT.

Manuel Carrillo III/Capital One

BMW i4

The 2022 BMW i4 is an electric, four-door hatchback based on the gas-powered 4 Series Gran Coupe, aimed squarely at the grand-touring luxury crowd. The base rear-wheel-drive (RWD) i4 eDrive40 features up to 301 miles of driving range and offers 335 horsepower. The AWD, twin-motor i4 M50 provides up to 270 miles of range and as much as 536 horsepower using its Sport Boost feature. Both employ an 81-kWh battery. Pricing for the i4 starts at $56,395 for the eDrive40 and $66,895 for the M50.
Chevrolet

Chevrolet Bolt EV

The second-generation, 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV is an affordable four-door hatchback that delivers usable real-world driving range and surprising practicality for its compact size. A 65-kWh battery provides an estimated 259 miles of driving distance when topped up. A full charge on a 240-volt outlet takes 7 hours, but you can add 100 miles of range in 30 minutes using a DC fast-charger. And the front-wheel-drive (FWD) electric Chevy provides sprightly performance with 200 horsepower. The base Bolt EV is priced starting at $32,495.

Lucid

Lucid Air

The 2022 Lucid Air sedan is currently aimed at the upper tiers of the luxury segment, as only the top-end editions of this stunningly designed four-door sedan are currently available. Not including destination fees, the dual-motor, $140,500 Air Grand Touring is an 819-hp, AWD rocket. A 112-kWh battery packs up to 520 miles of range. A 1,050-hp Grand Touring Performance trim is also on offer, reducing the range to 469 miles and boosting the price to $180,500. Lucid claims the Air's ultra-fast, 900-volt charging system can add up to 300 miles of range in 20 minutes at a DC fast-charger.
Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the all-electric, four-door hatchback alternative to the German brand's flagship S-Class sedan. The first of two trims, the EQS 450+, starts at $103,360 and provides 329 horsepower from a single electric motor that motivates the rear wheels. The estimated range stands at 350 miles for this model. The more powerful EQS 580 4Matic starts at $126,950 and provides a pair of motors, all-wheel drive, and 516 horsepower, although the range drops slightly to 340 miles. Both EQS models use a 108-kWh battery.

Mini

Mini Cooper SE Hardtop 2 Door

For those seeking an electric city car with more personality, the 2022 Mini Cooper SE presents an upscale choice. The range for the two-door hatchback is limited to 114 miles, which makes it less appealing as a road trip option. But its $35,075 starting price equates to one of the least expensive battery-electric cars on the market. Its 32-kWh battery can be recharged to 80% capacity at a DC fast charger in only 36 minutes. A 181-hp motor sends power to the front wheels, and the Mini's small proportions and wheel-at-each-corner design imbues it with a playfulness often missing from the affordable EV driving experience.
Nissan

Nissan Leaf

At just $28,425, Nissan's FWD, four-door, compact hatchback is an inexpensive option that expands on the Mini's limited driving range and interior space. Credit goes in part to the Leaf's larger 40-kWh battery, providing 147 horsepower and 149 miles of driving between charges. There's also the $33,425 Leaf Plus. It offers a more powerful 62-kWh battery, 214 horsepower, and up to 226 miles of range—a big step over the entry-level Leaf.

Polestar

Polestar 2

The 2022 Polestar 2 hovers at the periphery of the luxury market with a pair of appealing compact hatchback trims. The base $49,800 Long Range Single Motor Polestar 2 provides 270 miles of range, front-wheel drive, and 231 horsepower matched with a 78-kWh battery pack. The Long Range Dual Motor version adds $3,500 to the price, almost doubles output to 408 horsepower, and adds AWD while subtracting 21 miles from the vehicle's total driving range.

Porsche

Porsche Taycan

With no fewer than five 2022 Taycan trim levels in total, Porsche provides a startling array of options for those seeking a luxurious, high-performance, four-door sedan. The base Taycan's $88,150 starting price gets you RWD, a single electric motor that develops 402 horsepower with launch control, and 200 miles of driving range from its 79-kWh battery pack. The dual-motor, AWD, $107,950 Taycan 4S provides the greatest range (227 miles from a 93-kWh battery pack), and the $188,850 Turbo S is the most expensive and offers impressive performance with 750 horsepower.
Tesla

Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 compact four-door sedan is the most affordable member of the EV brand's lineup. However, you might have difficulty finding examples of the $48,440 RWD base trim to buy, which features 272 miles of range and 340 horsepower from a 54-kWh battery pack. Far more common are the $59,440 Long Range and $64,440 Performance trims. Each uses a larger 75-kWh battery and dual motors that provide all-wheel drive. The Long Range (447 horsepower) can travel up to 358 miles on a charge, while the Performance (580 horsepower) is good for an estimated 315 miles.

Tesla

Tesla Model S

Roomier than the Model 3, Tesla’s flagship Model S hatchback comes in two trim levels with a startling amount of power. Nearly twice as expensive as its smaller Model 3 sibling, the base, all-wheel-drive Model S begins at $106,440. It provides up to 405 miles of driving range and 670 horsepower from its 100-kWh battery pack. A $137,440 tri-motor trim, called the Plaid, ups output to 1,020 hp while dropping range only slightly to a maximum of 396 miles. All Teslas benefit from the company’s exclusive Supercharger network with nearly 1,400 fast-charging stations in the U.S.
