2025 Audi A5 and S5 First Look
The A4 sedan gives way to the A5, a sleek sedan with a large hatchback-style trunk.

After three decades, 2025 marks the final model year for the Audi A4 sedan. What you see here is the model that will take over for the departing A4: the fully redesigned 2025 Audi A5, a four-door with a long hatchback trunklid.
With crossovers and SUVs remaining far more popular than conventional sedans, Audi seems to be simplifying its lineup by focusing on the sleek and slightly roomier hatchback layout, previously called Sportback.

The A5 and S5 Get Turbo Power
In Audi's new vehicle-naming system, even-numbered models (A6, Q4, etc.) are all-electric, while odd-numbered vehicles (A5, Q7, etc.) are motivated by gasoline or hybrid propulsion.

The lineup begins with the base-model A5, powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 268 horsepower. Next comes the performance-oriented S5, packing a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine with 362 horsepower.
Both the A5 and S5 are mild hybrids, with a 24-hp electric motor to boost acceleration while reducing fuel consumption, and every A5/S5 model comes exclusively with a dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard Quattro all-wheel drive.

Sleek Sportback Styling
For years, Audi has offered some of its sedans as Sportback versions, featuring sporty fastback styling with a large tailgate for cargo-carrying practicality. With the A4 disappearing, the redesigned A5 gets a slightly more conventional silhouette that splits the difference between the upright A4 sedan and the outgoing slope-tailed Sportback.
While Audi will no longer use the Sportback name on this all-new A5, the capacious hatchback design returns, with the trunklid and rear window lifting open as one unit for easy loading and unloading. Unfortunately, Audi does not plan on bringing a station-wagon version of the A5 to the U.S. market.

The A5 and S5 Go Tech Heavy
The most noticeable upgrade to the A5 lineup for 2025 is the enormous curved glass display living atop the dashboard. Audi calls it the Digital Stage, and it houses both the 11.9-inch driver's instrument panel and the 14.5-inch central touchscreen. Audio, navigation, climate control, and vehicle settings are all handled through the central touchscreen.
A new option allows customers to add yet another screen to the mix: A 10.9-inch rectangular panel for the front-seat passenger, offering touch-sensitive controls for navigation, audio, climate and more. Audi says this front passenger display is not visible to the driver, to minimize distraction. A head-up display provides vital driver information without having to look away from the road.

Not All 2025 A5s Are Created Equal
Confusingly, Audi appears set to sell both the last-generation A5 Sportback (known by the internal code B9) and the all-new redesigned A5 (codename B10) in the 2025 model year.
The all-new B10 A5 should go on sale by the spring or summer of 2025 in the U.S. Audi has not yet announced pricing or fuel economy on the new 2025 A5 and S5.
