2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty: What We Know So Far

Ford's heavy hauler goes (mostly) four-wheel drive and it adds plenty of tech.

While the redesigned 2023 F-Series Super Duty doesn’t follow its F-150 Lightning sibling into EV territory just yet, there’s plenty of news under its tall hood.

This lineup of heavy haulers gains flashier styling than its predecessor, with available LED exterior lighting and a pair of oversize screens inside, plus a new gas engine choice. Let’s take a look at what we know about the redesigned 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty lineup.

Ford has released preliminary power figures for the 2023 F-Series Super Duty. A new gas-fueled, 400-hp, 6.8-liter V8 now serves as the entry to the lineup. Next up is a 430-hp, 7.3-liter V8, which remains unchanged from the outgoing model.

Said to be unchanged is the standard-output, turbo-diesel, 6.7-liter V8, which Ford says will continue to produce 475 horsepower and redwood-tugging 1,050 pound-feet of torque. According to preliminary specifications, a new, optional, high-output version with a different turbocharger and various other tweaks will produce 500 hp and 1,200 lb.-ft. of torque. All models now use a 10-speed automatic transmission, too.

Uniquely, nearly every version of the new Super Duty will come standard with four-wheel drive. Only the base XL trim level is offered in an entry-level, rear-drive variant.

These big trucks may not make for happy companions on a tight trail, but the optional Tremor off-road package includes chunky tires, a revised suspension, underbody protection, and a system called Trail Turn Assist that brakes the inside rear wheel to help reduce the vehicle’s turning circle on rugged terrain.

Ford is keeping its lips sealed on the F-Series Super Duty’s maximum towing capacity. The 2022 model could lug as much as 37,000 pounds of trailer in a specific configuration, though crew-cab versions with four-wheel drive and the diesel engine are rated at 20,000 pounds or less.

The Super Duty lineup gains a new interior with plenty of available tech. Tick all the option boxes and you’ll find features such as a 5G mobile data antenna, a Wi-Fi hotspot capable of supporting up to 10 connected devices, and a surround-view camera system that provides a drone-like overhead view of the entire truck—and an attached trailer.

An 8-inch touchscreen comes on the base XL, while all other versions are fitted with a 12-inch screen. A digital instrument cluster is also available. On the audio front, shoppers can fill the big truck’s cabin with either 640 or 1,080 watts of sound from B&O speakers.

Like the lighter-duty F-150, the F-Series Super Duty employs aluminum for its body panels and bed.

Ford says the first 2023 F-Series Super Duty models will hit dealers in “early 2023,” though some versions will follow later in spring 2023.

Ford plans XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trim levels, which will be available in varying regular-, extended-, and crew-cab configurations. The 2023 Ford Super Duty starts around $46,000 for a regular cab F-250, while the loaded F-450 Limited starts just under $105,000.
